Roodepoort Athletics Club - Code of Conduct


What are expected from the Roodepoort Athletic Club Members?

  • Members are expected to show respect to one another, treat each other with integrity and fairness at all times.
  • The use of foul, offensive language is prohibited (This includes the Club’s WhatsApp Groups)
  • Members are expected to be honest when submitting their race qualifying times, to abide by the CGA rules and other event organisers;
  • Members are urged to support the club (club runs, fund raisers, social events, etc), and to ensure that their payment of annual membership fees is up to date and that all CGA registration required is completed annually.
  • Be considerate and support other members.


WhatsApp Rules and Regulations

  • The club has three WhatsApp groups namely :
  1. One for Club Run training announcements.
  2. One for announcements as well as general discussions amongst club members.
  3. One for Walkers for general discussions as well as training announcements.
  • Members are not allowed to post any comments in the official Club training communication group.
  • The official language on both groups is English.
  • The group is not a political platform. No arguing, no racial comments, no heated opinions, no hyped-up drama, no fake news. Check your sources before you share.
  • Failure to adhere to the WhatsApp rules can result in disciplinary action by the committee and/or removal from the WhatsApp groups.


Rules of the Road and Club Runs

  • Please be on time for club-runs. Times will be communicated on the WhatsApp groups and/or emails.
  • If you are running on the road, run against the flow of traffic (facing the traffic) on the far-right side of the road.
  • When running in a group, ensure you don’t run more than two abreast.
  • Be responsible for your own safety and the safety of others. Warn other runners around you of impending hazards.
  • Ensure you follow any road rules, including stopping at stop signs/robots and checking left and right for traffic before crossing roads.
  • Respect private property along your route.
  • Don’t litter. If you can’t find a rubbish bin, ensure you carry your rubbish with you.
  • If you have to turn around earlier than the club-run route or distance, please inform the club run organiser / road captain before the time.
  • It is not the duty of the club run organiser / road captain to babysit in any way.
  • Run at your own risk
  • If a security guard is organised to watch cars, we encourage the club members to tip the security guard.
